Resolving a Quality Assurance Backlog during a Production Peak with a Reduced Workforce

Bridging a short-term capacity bottleneck in quality assurance - fast & efficient

A medium-sized manufacturing company in Upper Austria had deliberately reduced its workforce to remain economically stable during challenging market conditions.

When an unexpected production peak occurred, this decision became a critical bottleneck:
the internal quality assurance team could no longer handle the additional inspection workload within the ongoing three-shift operation.

Without immediate external support, inspection backlogs, delivery delays, and quality risks would have been unavoidable.

Modular assemblies had to be inspected, documented, and released for shipment within a very short timeframe, without time for additional training, without structural changes to headcount, and without disrupting ongoing production.

The task for FOCUSON was clear: to provide short-term operational capacity in quality control in order to absorb the production peak and ensure quality and delivery capability despite a reduced internal workforce.

Short-term & flexible deployment

FOCUSON provided an operational quality team within 24 hours of the initial request.
Thanks to a dedicated pool of experienced personnel, deployment was possible immediately,  even within an active three-shift operation and without long lead times.

Each assignment is managed by a dedicated Quality Coordinator responsible for planning, on-site coordination, and execution.
All team members were fully briefed in advance, ensuring a smooth and controlled start without additional effort from the customer’s core team.

Fully operational within existing processes

This structured preparation enabled a direct takeover of quality tasks with minimal involvement of internal staff.

FOCUSON took responsibility for:

  • Visual and functional inspections of modular assemblies based on defined inspection and checklists
  • Completeness and variant checks
  • Documentation of inspection results in the customer’s quality system
  • Identification, marking, and feedback of non-conforming parts

Scalable team size based on actual demand

Throughout the multi-day project, team size was adjusted daily to match the real workload.
When part volumes increased, capacity was scaled up; when volumes decreased, resources were reduced accordingly.

This ensured efficient use of resources at all times with full cost transparency and control.
